I have a very large very fuzzy rather spoiled rotten kitty and he only ever once botherd the bator so its possible , but that was a one time thing and I have had it set up for about a month.

do not test them against each other.. it proves nothing.. I have explained this over and over in past threads.......

Actually, it proves they are precise though not necessarily accurate. I'll take consistent any day. If I have 4 thermometers and the readings on 3 are close I discount the 4th. If 2 of the 3 are exactly the same- buddy I'm just going to use those. It's not rocket science, we're just hatching 3ggs! It doesn't matter whether the temp is 99, 99.5 or 100 or if the humidity is off by 3% or 4% but it will accurately tell me that the temp has dropped by 5 degrees or the humidity has dropped 20%. This information tells me that something is wrong and should be corrected.

there is one on every thread..
If you have 4 therms that are reading 99.5 to 100.5 when in actuality the temp is 106.. your eggs are toast. that is all I meant..

you can come up with any scenario you want .. what if 's don't count as a good argument in my book..

You're right, there is one on every thread and it's usually you I see.

Springfield Instruments, Model Number: 91551

"Temperature range: 32 degrees F to 122 degrees F (+/- 2 degrees tolerance) "

Which means at 99.5 it could read from 97.5 to 101.5. Not 106. Assuming their tolerance figures result from a (standard) Gaussian distribution where 95% of measurements will fall within two standard deviations; 95% of all the Model Number# 91551 produced by this company should fall within tolerance. I think comparing two like instruments to test their tolerance (which would clearly indicate a problem if you read a difference greater than 4 degrees in 95% of all cases) is a valid process. I just want to have a reasonable assurance that the instrument is close. A friend identified a bad thermometer by comparing it to another of the same model. He them used a sampling from several known good thermometers to identify the one with the bad reading. Don't tell me that comparing thermometers is useless. "that is all I meant.."

I'm sorry, should I have been more rude and condescending?

Edited to add: Sorry folks for taking this further than it needed to go.

All I can say is pick up ANY thermometer and it's going to be better than the one that ships with the LG ... that thing was so inconsistent, it would read as much as 5-6 degrees too high and at least 10 degrees too low (as compared in real time to the under $10 thermometer/hydrometer my DH picked up for me)

Not saying the cheap model is dead-on for accuracy, but if it's wrong, it is at least consistently wrong.

There are a few u-tube videos on how to install the lg fan kit. I plan on buying a kit on e-bay soon as our eggs our done we are a week in to our first hatch with little giant. seems to be an ok incubator but time will tell.

the way I do it is to take a thermometer that has the national bureau of standards certification sticker on it and then check the ones from wally world against one that has been checked against ice water ( 31 degree ice trying to turn into 33 degree water always = 32* F )

Hiya, I can tell you YES there will be a problem if the cat can get to the incubator!

I had mine in the kitchen while I set it up, no problems but when I was going to put the eggs in it went into the spare room. It's not so much that they can tip or squash it but when those eggs start peeping the cat will realize there is FOOD in that 'bator. And Styrofoam will not stand up to a kitty that wants to get in it.

My best mouser (I have indoor only kitties) stands outside the spare room door and howls and scratches the door to get in when he can hear them hatching so I have no doubt the chicks would be snacks if he could get to them. The other two kitties will join in crying to be let in when I'm in there and have made their intentions clear...
