Here is a little trick I learned about keeping a syringe working. I have had problems with the plunger not sliding and sticking, even pulling the rubber stopper off. There is a product you can find in the plumbing section of any hardware store for lubricating and maintaining rubber, it is called silicone grease. I have found myself needing a syringe and a new one wasn't going to be accessible until after the weekend, so being able to rejuvenate the one I had on hand was a godsend.
