I've been reading & reading trying to figure out what to do with Tumbles flock. We have 8 1 week old chicks (1 buff orpington, an Australope (sp), a Bluff Rock, an Americana and 3 easter eggers.
A) build a coop. It wont be very large, but could possibly add on next year. I have some material we can repurpose, but would have to buy alot.
B) Convert my 8 X10X8 barn that is in great shape(which is in a great spot for a coop & run area) use the materials I have to make it a COOP for free, which leaves more money to be spent on their run & things to get us started on our chicken experience (we've already talked about getting more next year) and buy another barn later for the "stuff" we currently have in there.
I'm obsessed with making sure it is very safe for them. My kids & I would be heart broke if they got hurt or killed.
Trying to figure out exactly how much room is needed for the 8 (possibly more) chickens to be happy & comfortable, is bigger always better?
