Tonight, while tucking the 'kids' away, I notice my older hen (approx 7+ yrs whose mostly blind) with one side of her face and head, red and very swollen. It looked like she had a wound on the corner of her mouth (almost looked like another eye!). I took her inside and grabbed tweezers. What I pulled out reminded me of bumblefoot. A large (3/4 in long cheezy 'capsule'. It was light green in color. As I was rinsing her mouth, I noticed a lot of either coagolated blood or a tumor of sort. I don't know if it's a cancer, or if they can get bumblefoot on the face??? Her face is still quite swollen. I'm at a loss as to what to do. We have no vets around here that treat chickens.
I did use a syringe to rinse peroxide/water mix in the wound because there was blood and tissue there. I appreciate any advice, especially if I should try antibiotics...if so, what kind and how much. I have a Tractor Supply Company that sell farm animal antibiotics.
Thank You.
