In August I asked this question with a picture of my hen. I got a few responses on it. I ended up trying the surgery myself on the day I felt it was time because she got worse. I didn't find anything more than a little bit of food in her crop. I decided to slaughter her. When I checked the liver it was very soft and I could smoosh it apart with my fingers. At this point I knew that the meet was not any good to eat and I cut open her breast to see if I could find anything out of the ordinary. The picture shows what I found. I was pretty shocked. Obviously she was a very sick chicken. Even with this condition, she still ate and laid eggs. I'm glad that I did it to relieve her of the pain she must have had. Does anybody have a clue what it could be?

Wow, I have never seen anything like that before. I can't believe she still laid eggs!

Maybe you can see of this can be moved over to the Emergencies/Diseases forum? I'm sure there are those more experienced with odd diseases than I am hanging out there. I know Kathy (casportpony) is familiar with many diseases and posts frequently there.
