Turkenstein25's Turkey Talk for 2015

I have been chopping the onion tops up very fine and only feeding the five birds a gram (equivalent to two wild spring onions that come up in your yard that's what type of onions they are) at a time and they love them just want to make sure it's okay and not harmful

Mine have eaten nominal amounts of onion and garlic with no harm, but I would avoid weeding/harvesting and feeding large quantities at once.
onions are listed as toxic for birds. I would not take the chance with giving it to them. It was pointed out on a different thread that the salt and onions used to cook beans would not be good for them either--salt intake can be bad for them if it is too high.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome and advice. I was not prepared for turkey poults! I have them in our brooder with five one week old chicks. The poults are so clumsy! For no reason they will be running around and then end up on their back. I had to pick the kids up after school today and by the time I had gotten home one of the poults was laying on its back in a strange position. It had given up on life and was sleeping. Or maybe dying. I think I've nursed it back to health (it was rather droopy). I'm afraid to leave them!

That is a humongous turkey! Wowzers! We had planned to butcher in October, but I will make certain that they aren't getting too large.

i have two styrofoam incubators set up, one is still air without a turner (eggs laying on their sides) and the other is a forced air with a turner (eggs standing up on thier points) in the next few days i will be candling them and throwing out the ones that werent fertile or have died. id like to transfer as many as possible to the automatic turner and forced air incubator to save on turning time and the forced air is much more stable on temp. so with all that being said, could it cause a problem transfering them from one incubator to the next? im worried since they have started growing on thier side it could mess them up changing them to make them standing up

Well she's still here...sweetest bird I've ever met!

Let her out of the enclosure since I planned on being outside for awhile...she has been right in my hip pocket... She decided to take a nap next to me in the shade...

Thank you :)
I'm trying to decide if she's small, or if my EE Rooster is just huge?!

He saw her today in the yard, their first face to face and he tried to do his best "hey hunny, you new around here fandango" dropping one wing and side stepping all around her...and side by side they're the same height! She of course just kinda nodded at him and walked off and ate some more grass... He strutted away back to his girls...had I been thinking I would have got it on video...lol

My EE rooster does the same thing to my two Bourbon reds. He side-steps to them and me sometimes, also.

Here was my 52 pound live weight BBB tom (my first, I didn't know any better, got him in May). I had to cook him in the broiler pan, and shielded the wings and drumsticks with foil for most of the roasting, and had to truss the wings to the body to keep them from burning on the oven sides.

Nice turkey! Looks good

Here is my largest Tom turkey yet, 42lbs after process. BBW Tom.

After cooking this turkey I started to cook all my turkeys breast side down, BBW and Heritage. It keeps the juices flowing down into the breast and keeps it nice and moist. Doesn't look as pretty but in my opinion cooks better.
