Turkenstein25's Turkey Talk for 2015

Ive ordered 15 poults due wednesday. Ive heard alot of people having issues raising turkeys from poults. Saying they're high maitenance with a poor survival rate for the first couple weeks. Any tips? Also...can i put a chick or two in to show them the ropes?

Welcome to BYC and the turkey thread!
You will get a great start with your new poults by adding some electrolytes to their room temp water you will need to dunk their beak in the food and water several times till you see them eating and drinking on their own chicks will help teach them quicker. Poults need their mother to show them and imprint on them so they learn to eat and drink, with out their mom you need to show them what they need to do some learn faster than others.

I've ordered RB poults from Country hatchery which is about 30 miles away. I've got 12 CQ chicks and 5 BBB from Cackle, and set 15 mail order Narragansett eggs last night. This may get confusing when they all arrive about the same time. I've got 14 JG chicks that the hens hatched out this spring which will be out of the brooder by the time the all arrive around the 22nd. Wish me luck, I'm goin' in!

Good luck Ironsights and eandcrangel on you poults!
