Dactylariosisis a fungal disease caused by
the mold Dactylaria and typically involves
the brain. The fungus, which can be found in pine bark and
“raw wood” shavings that have not been kiln-dried
, colonizes the nasal passages and gradually eats its way into the calvarium
. The clinical signs look much like any other viral or bacterial encephalitis.

Anyone ever seen this damage done to poultry?
Are farm stores generally mandated to have shavings that have been kiln-dried? This could explain symptoms in some birds that are never resolved by any other medical means. Does it involves shavings or flakes that get WET? Thus, if a farm store's packaged flakes set outside from rain storm and then, allowed to dry, spores develop? (my birds NEVER have wet material and if accident occurred to make wet, it is removed immediately)

Wet shavings or mold can cause aspergillus, or brooder pneumonia, people can get it too.
Mine are never wet-do not allow it, and have had to tell farm stores that their flakes looked as if they were wet or had been wet, and that it creates fungus.
