Turkey Breed Crosses?

So far, so good! Neither of the hens seem any worse for the experience with their "big guy". I've just been waiting for my young BR toms to grow out to a good size to process, and then I'll move the older BR I've selected for a breeder into the pens with the BR hens. Until then, I have the breeder BR tom in with my MW's as they all hatched at the same time and are the same age and size (well, almost). On a side note, the poults were due to hatch on the 23rd, but actually began hatching on the 21st... 2 days early. Today, another egg hatched and I have an active healthy poult, 3 days late! Talk about a staggered hatch.... all were set the same day in the same 'bator.

Edited to add a pic of the little BR/MW crosses just a couple days after hatching. Cute little things, aren't they?

keep us posted with pics!!

Sigh... all 11 of them were picked up Sunday afternoon by their new owners. Last summer I met another BYC'er who needed some extra 'bator space for some Penedesenca eggs. From that initial meeting we've become friends, and through that friendship the poults found a new home, plus I met 2 more chicken (and now turkey) people. The turks will be close by and the new owners will send pics as they mature. I'm curious to see what these crosses will look like as they grow out.

I've set 13 more eggs in the bator last week. Now the hard part.... waiting. 28 days can seem like such a long time!
