Hey,
I was suggested to write this here, so I'll give it a shot
I'm hoping to get a turkey poult next year. I make crafts (Dreamcatchers, some feather painting and learning to make other things) and love collecting feathers. I bought some turkey pointer feathers from a Native American Trading post for painting, but would love to also have my own turkey to raise and get other feathers from when they are shed.
Are there any turkey breeders in FL, prefferrably around Tampa or Sarasota, who will hatch turkeys next year? I would like to start with the youngest possible so I can have more "bonding time," with the turkey
Also, would you suggest male or female?
The turkey will most likely live in an aviary I built with my mom and friend in which I keep 3 silver pheasants, 6 female bobwhite quails and a cot quail (separated in his own little home inside the aviary so he doesn't get hurt). I would imagine that placing the turkey out with them will be fine once it's big enough. The pheasants aren't bad to the quails, the 2 females just peck at them when they don't want the quail running around their feet. My male pheasant is wonderful with them but standoff-ish with me and other people. I would imagine a turkey roughly their size or a bit bigger wouldn't bother them.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Thank you!
