My Male Turkey is looking like he is killing my female when he mounts her. She gasps for breath. Is this normal? He is a bit bigger than her, but both are new to this too.

Heritage. Female is a royal palm Male is a normal bronze. Bought at a farm not at a feed storeAre they heritage turkeys or broad breasted?
That can happen when the tom is big. Royal Palms are one of the smaller turkeys while Bronze are one of the larger heritage turkeys. Some toms are also just better breeders than others and quickly get on and do their business while other toms can seem to be playing instead of getting the job done.My Male Turkey is looking like he is killing my female when he mounts her. He couldn't figure it out at first. I got him and his brother (royal palm Male that went to a friend) from a bachelor groupThat can happen when the tom is big. Good luck.
You should use much heavier wood for turkey roosts. I prefer mine to be at least 4" in diameter.
This was mainly for the chickens. The Male never seems to want to roost. The female goes up to the second floor away from everyone to roostYou should use much heavier wood for turkey roosts. I prefer mine to be at least 4" in diameter.
If the tom is not roosting it is because he has not found a desirable roost for himself. This was mainly for the chickens. The Male never seems to want to roost. The female goes up to the second floor away from everyone to roost
