I have 17 turkey eggs set, today is day 8 for them. I set 12 chicken eggs today to hatch a day later with them, while I had the bator open got the odor of a bad egg so I decided to candle the turkey eggs I know its early for them I candle 28 day eggs on day 10 or 14 which ever is convenient. Out of 17 turkey eggs found the rotten one and noticed 5 or 6 more were clear. I know its early so I set them back in. But they're pretty clear. Bought these from a guy with 15 hens and 3 toms. Does that ratio of fertile eggs seem low for that tom to hen ratio. I have 1 rooster and 6 hens and outta 42 eggs in a seperate bator 2 were clear.

Actually that’s a good number :) it’s should be 1 Tom to 10 hens so the ratio is really good. It could be alil early on the eggs just wait a few more days and hopefully you will have a great hatch.

I know the tom to hen ratio is fine. Is the 6 clear eggs to fertile eggs ratio seem low for the amount of toms to hens. I mean outta 17 eggs with 3 toms seems like there should be more fertile eggs than whats in there to me. Thats 7 eggs outta 17 thats not fertile. Seems low to me.

I do agree that is kind of low, but we need to take it into consideration that the eggs that look clear maybe new layers. I had a hen ones that when the Tom would get on her to mate with her she would lay down then she would get out from underneath him none of her eggs were good :( . I would wait a few days just to make sure they aren’t fertile
