I have the chance to buy two May born turkeys, one male one female they are said to be 35-45 pounds each. I can buy them for 45$ each. I buy fresh birds each year at 3$ per pound and usually I get a 25-35 pounder and a 15-20 pounder. How much feed do you think they'l eat in this last month? Should I do it?

Turkeys eat a LOT, but a 50-lb bag of feed is only about $13. So whether or not to buy them depends on the answers to these questions:

Do you have a predator-proof place to keep them for a month?
Will the dressed-out bird cost you any less than buying one at the store?
Do you have the guts to kill them when it comes times?
Will your kids eat something they've helped raise? (My kids won't!)

I went ahead and got them. They are 6 months old and the hen is 35 lbs and the Tom is 42 lbs. They are settling in nicely to their new home. My kids are ready when the time comes...generally, sometimes there is a bit of a fuss. We do this all because I wanted my children to be closer to the earth....I hope its working.
I hope the last month of feeding them Fat and Finish puts the pounds on. Fresh birds are running 3$ s pound around here.
