I need advice. I want to use an existing yard to keep some turkeys. The yard is surrounded by a 4 foot wooven wire fence and three electric wires on the and another electric wire about one foot from the ground on the outside. This yard was used to keep in lambs and keep out preditors. The top electric wire is about 5 feet high. I was wondering if this will keep turkey in. I will clip a wing on the birds. I will have to build a shelter in this yard, but wanted to be sure this fence would work before I built the shelter. Thanks for any advice.

Depends on the breed of turkey. Broad Breasted Bronze/White should be able to be kept in with no problems. Eastern Wild or another heritage breed, probably not so much.

Thank you. Would you know if the Broad Breasted Bronze will live as long as the other breeds. Do they have more problems than the other breeds? I realize they don't set eggs, but could a person keep them and incubate the eggs.

Thanks for the help

They live a much shorter life than the heritage breeds, their are alot more problems associated to them as young and while growing. They could set their eggs, but if you only have broad breasted, they wont be fertile.

You could possibly a heritage breed, as long as you keep their wings clipped through their molts
