hell yall,

i have a 12week old turkey (roughly)

hes a lone turkey i raised (look at other posts for the back story as to why i have one singlular wild turkey, i live in new zealand, it is not illegal.)

i noticed little yellow spots on his head today, 2 near his nasal cavity in his skull (not his nostrils, the hollow part just under them) and just now i took a closer look at his head and noticed a few more down his neck and atleast one of each eye.

they arent very large right now thankfully but the ones on his eyes are the ones worrying me the most, i dont know how he will deal if hes temporarily blinded like
the hen i will mention in a minute

his throat is clear from what i can see, so dry avian pox for now anyway

i have had a one chicken go through pox before, and a group of a mother hen and around 5 chicks get it too around the same time

the one hen had it REALLY bad. her entire face scabbed over, i managed to keep her alive by propping her in a weird box thing where i would dump feed mash (wet food) for her so she could get water and food in one go.

the chicks and mother hen were pretty okay through the whole thing, they didnt really scab and the spots went away after about 2-3 weeks.

the main hen was a nightmare for me, and i really dont want to deal with that again. especially with a turkey i have a good relationship with and have raised, i basically treat him like my baby. i dont want him to go through what she went through, even if shes completely fine now, no scars no nothing but her eyelids seem tight (this doesn’t hinder her life at all she can still blink i just wonder if it was from the scabbing)

is there any way i can prevent bad scabbing or kind of slow down the progress of the pox before it gets real bad, it took me a few days to quarantine the first hen as i didnt know what it was but the chicks were quarantined and cared for as soon as i noticed it. i “treated” the main hen with vaseline and salve on her face to try and soften the scabs, and betadine (iodine) to disinfect it if necessary. eventually she just scratched all the scabs off while i wasnt supervising her and they never came back.

i know fowl pox isnt treatable, and i really really do not want to quarantine him but he follows around a mother hen and her 3 very small babies (theyre just about his age i would say) and i dont want them getting it too. i might make him an outside “quarantine” coop just to keep him in one spot, as he needs one anyway.

any ideas? sorry about the poor quality photos he does not stay still for more than 3 seconds
