Turkey Fryer

That is it LilyD, you can get a larger pot, and still use the burner set up for turkeys. For me, I use the turkey fryer for 40.00 and one of my pluckers for 40.00 and bought a 1/2" drill for 40.00 at harbor freight and was processing for 120.00, in my opinion it is much better than 600.00 plucker and 200.00 scalder. Check out my farm page in my signature, and good luck and happy plucking.......

Hehe I was wondering I just looked at that plucker on ebay and was really interested in it. I can get a drill with auto run for about 25 dollars at my local hardware store to go with it and with the scalder we will be ready to be fast and efficient for our next batch I can't wait :)

When we do big turkeys, we use our scalder (whizbang) to heat the water, then pour the heated water into a metal trash can and dip the turkeys in that. Our scalder can fit the smaller turkeys we have, but if it is over 12lbs dressed weight, it has a hard time fitting in our scalder. We remove the primary wing feathers before scalding to help them fit a little better.

The turkey fryer says it can handle turkeys up to 20 pounds but does better when they are 15 pounds or under. I like the idea of using a larger metal pan on the same stand to keep it hot. I have also heard that you can dry pluck turkeys and that they are fairly easy to pluck dry. Is that true?

I think the turkey fryer would work great for the chickens since they get to be 13 pounds and under live weight. Just have to see if I can fit a turkey in there. If not I will have to come up with something else.
