I have 4 poults now 3 weeks old I think. One hurt his leg, I posted and we tried to splint and it didn't work, I think we will have to cull it soon.
Now today 2 more are starting to wobble, like their knees are swollen. I just don't know what to do. Is there some defect that causes this? They are large whites. I'm so sad.
They showed no signs of this until today.
The guy who gave them to us, one of his are doing the same.
Any ideas? Thanks
Brenda

my "Turkey Management" says it is lack of Vitamins and minerals
it is rickets in turkeys
swollen joints and leg deformities
so I would say the birds have not been getting the proper minerals and vitamins
causing malnutrition especially manganese and Choline which is agrivated by too much phosphorus in the diet and lack of direct sun light

the feeding of proper vitamins and minerals especially calcium

so are you feeding the turkeys the Turkey feed that will have all these vitamins and minerals in it plus calcium
How new was the turkey feed you are using?
hopefully it was not feed kept over the winter in stock at the feed store?
as the feed would be deficient in the needed vit and minerals from long storage
also keep feed opened in cool metal can with lid

also I would put 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar in gallon of water daily for thm
as it will make theirbodies absorb these vitamins and minerals and calcium
also you can go to the turkey board these pople are very good about turkeys

you can email me also by PM

Thanks
I have fed them a medicated turkey feed, Purina brand I got it from a co-op, so I'm thinking it was good. I will call the company to see if they can tell me how old it was.
It says it has , Niacin supplement, calcium pantothenate, menadione, dimethylprimidinol bisulfite,
source of vit k, folic acid, riboflavin, supplement, vit bc 12, supp. thiamine mononitrate, vit d 3 supp.manganous oxide ,zinc, copper sulfate, calcium iodate, sodium selenite.
It has been cold here till this weekend so we couldn't let them in the sun, but we brought them out today and they sunned a bit!
Is there anything to help reverse this?
