My turkey hen is limping and her leg is shaking. This has happened in the past and I put her in the kennel and gave her metacam - maybe it’s called meloxin and she recovered. Well she did it again. I am out of metacam and ordered it online but it could take a while to get here. I wanted to see if I could use any of these things I have on hand
Banamine inj OR Paste - used on horses
Gallipant I gave my dog before
If so any idea how much I give her? And with the inj how? On the horse it’s in the vein.

I feel like it is pretty bad where if I don’t treat her I could end up losing her.
Thanks

The first thing you need to figure out is why your hen is limping. It is not uncommon for a turkey hen to get injured in a bad breeding episode. The wound will normally be on her side under her wing and in front of her leg. This kind of injury will cause limping. Most can recover without any interference by a person as long as they are separated from the tom to prevent further injuries.

@casportpony can advise whether or not your treatment plan is advisable.

Thank you for the info. It is not from breeding as there is no mating here. I believe she did it coming off her roost. She is now sleeping in a kennel.

Galliprant looks like a drug that's used just on dogs, so I'm not sure how safe/effective it would be for other species. That is one I would not use.

Banamine can be used, but it's not as safe as Meloxicam.

How lame is she? Can you take video, upload to YouTube or Vimeo then copy/paste that link here?

I will use the Banamine then. I think she weighs approx 20lbs.
So do you know how much I would give her then?

I will try to do the video and upload it. I’ve never done that and am technically challenged but will try.

Thx

I think if you are going to use the banamine you need to weigh her. I would not use it unless you can get an accurate weight.
