I have a turkey hen that has been laying on eggs for 4 weeks as of this past Sunday. The problem is that I don't think the eggs have hatched. Her nest is snuggled in a wooded area under trees. I have to actually crawl to the area where she is to check on her and to bring her food and water. She will NOT MOVE from the nest, which is great. I am afraid to get too close because I don't want to startle or scare her away from the nest, but I want to know how many eggs she is laying on, make sure no eggs are cracked, make sure no dead poults are under her. If there are poults under her, wouldn't they peak out from under her? This is my first time having adult turkeys, so I am new to turkeys. I guess the questions is how much longer should I wait before I check the nest for problems? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well i just posted a few pics of my hen turkey....she had 19 eggs and hatched 19 chicks today!!!!! Yesturday i checked her.....nothing!!! And today by 10am she hatched them ALL! I would just give her some more time....and good luck!!! And i never once seen her off her nest....but the food would be gone....turkeys can be very sneeky!!!!!

And once again....GOOD LUCK!!!!!

4 weeks is right at hatching time, so I would give her another week before I would start trying to get her up. Also is it four weeks from the first egg or the last?

Yeah, I agree with the others. Your hen knows best. Let her keep sitting. I empathize with the having to crawl to get to her!!! Best of luck. And knippk... i'm so jealous!

since she is sitting on the nest.theres no way youll ever get her off the nest till she is good an ready.if she hatches she will bring the poults off the nest.my turkey hen hatched 11 out of 15 eggs.an lost 2 poults.an she is raising 9 poults.

Thanks to everyone who replied. This helps me a lot. I will be patient and let nature take its course. I'll keep you all posted. I am also jealous of your turkey pics.

They are too cute. I hope that I am that lucky in getting new poults soon.

Thanks
