tonight upon locking up all of my poultry i noticed my hen turkey is looking a little frail.. her feathers are thin in the breast area as well as her breast bone showing. she lays almost daily, i know her and the tom have some rough looking intercourse quite often. would that play a part? or is she molting? maybe need wormed or something? she seems to act fine walking around, tears up scratch corn, i know she eats the regular feed as well. thanks for any input

Turkeys start to look pretty ratty this time of year, half of mine are missing feather or have broken feathers. The toms have bare chests from laying on the ground and the hens too will get some feather loss. I am starting to see what I call the pre molt feathers in the run and shed. The actual molt with happen anywhere from August on. So as long as your hen acts fine I wouldn't worry it's normal for active sexually mature birds to lose some feathers during the summer.
