Help please!!! My female Narragansett poult got her leg caught in the fence where she perches at night. We found her hanging from it this morning when our Tom alerted us to her distress. No telling how long she was like that. It doesn't seem broken, I saw her stand on it and the range of motion looks ok- although she doesn't want to stand on it, obviously, she is able. Initially she drank and ate a few crumbs, but now is laying down and looks like she is in pain and unwell. She is making a soft cooing sound and keeping her eyes closed and tail feather spread. I have her outside of the run with the other young birds, no one is picking on her- in fact, some of the young chickens are nestling in close to her, and the Tom is guarding her. The injury doesn't look too bad- the leg is raw where it was caught, around the thigh, and it was bleeding, but doesn't look terrible. Her demeanor is what I'm concerned with. Is there anything I can do??

Turkeys can go into shock from pain. I would just leave her be and hopefully she gets through the next 24 hours, than she should slowly heal and improve. I am not familiar with any pain relief you can give her unfortunately.

Thanks. She has come around a little since. Fingers crossed! She's walking (with a limp) and eating and drinking. It is swollen and she still prefers laying down. Hoping to see improvement in the next couple days. I've seen some people use aspirin for chickens, but it makes me nervous. I think I'll wait and see unless something changes.
