We had a Rouen hen hatch 4 turkey eggs. She did a great job for 2 weeks. Yesterday I noticed 1 turkey poult dead. I was surprised. I continued my usual work about feeding the birds. I heard The Rouen having a fit, she was trying to crush one of the other turkey poults. I'm sure she killed the 1 I found. Have any of you ever experienced this? My Muscovy hen hatched Turkey eggs, and she didn't do this.
Something I noticed and I feel it has something to do with it. 1. The Muscovy had started laying eggs again and I noticed she wanted to get away from the youngin's. I separated them. 2. After I rescued the baby from the Rouen hen, I noticed she had layed an egg also. I learned a couple lessons here.
By the way the first set of Turkey Poults I put with the chicken poults that are all the same age. They get along like best friends. The turkeys are starting to outgrow the chickens and Iwill soon separate them. Funny to watch for sure.

Time for separation. I have raised many ducklings with other breed mothers, but have had very poor success raising others with duck mothers. The most frequent problem was having them stepped on and crushed by the ducks.
