In the Brooder
We have about 18 chickens (2 of them roosters, 6 of them pullets hatched by one of the hens) that free range in our yard and woods and 3 Narragansett turkeys(hens). The turkeys live outside all the time and fly into a tree overnight and free range during the day (we have a shelter for them but they never use it).
This morning, the 6 pullets were by themselves as they tend to not hang out with the rest of the flock or the roosters. We haven't had much problems with hawks, but this morning one dropped in to make an attempt at taking a pullet. The turkey spotted the hawk before it came in an she puffed up and went after the hawk. The hawk freaked out and almost flew into our house trying to get away.
I was really surprised because the turkeys always seem to spot stuff like a squirrel in a tree or a 747 cruising at 40,000 feet and start to squawk and act nervous. I assumed they were afraid of everything.
