Hello, I have 4 turkeys and they have been outside for about a month now. Last week I discovered they have dry pox, one has no spot or symptoms of wet pox, one has one huge bump by his mouth and the other two look pretty bad. one of my females has two pretty big ones by her eye that I'm worried about, but the scabs are going away. Is that a good sign? Then my other female has a couple of bumps that look pretty bad but not as concerning as the other female. I have been putting vitamins in their water and putting triple ointment cream on their bumps twice a day. This morning I went out to apply the ointment of the female that isn't as bad has bubbles in her eyes and I have no idea what to do. If anyone can help me that would be awesome.

The black one (Deuce) I'm not to worried about he has no bumps

the white one (Calypso) only has one bump I'm worried about

the blue one (Peachy) I was really worried about in the beginning because she was the worst but she looks way better than before her scabs are starting to clear up, I am worried about her eye though but she and the black one and the white one all have no signs of respiratory problems

the red bourbon (Mahogany) was I was keeping an eye on because she had more bumps than the white one but she wasn't as bad as the blue one, and you can see in the pictures her scabs are clearing up now, the only thing I'm worried about now is the swelling under the bump above her beak and the bubbles in her eyes

none of them are showing any signs of respiratory problems and are all eating and drinking normally, there is no coughing or sneezing. they also did not have any bumps in their mouths today

They actually don't look too bad. I have seen them much worse. Wet pox is when it's inside the mouth and throat and they won't eat and drink because of it, so I don't think you have wet pox, just dry that is around the mouth. It takes about 6 weeks for it to run it's course.

You don't need to treat the spots as messing with them can actually spread it, and creams can keep them from drying out, and prolong it.

I personally wouldn't be putting anything on them, but it's your choice. It's caused by a virus, so external treatment doesn't hurry it along. The birds immune system needs to fight it off.

The eye foam I don't know, but it's probably in response to the pox being around the eye. I would assume it will clear up as the bird improves. It can be hard to do nothing. I never did anything and my turkeys did okay. Their eyes would swell shut, and they looked horrible, all improved with no sign of pox. Those that go through it will be immune to it.

You can get some Terramycin eye ointment or Vetericyn EyeOintment to put in the eye, just to prevent any bacterial secondary eye infections. I agree with OHLD in that wet pox is inside the mouth, throat, and esophagus, not outside the beak. She knows more about turkeys and pox. Pox can be more serious in turkeys than chickens. Some use iodine on scabs to dry them up, but no treatment is required. Scabs are better not to be disturbed. Scabs that fall off can be infectious to the other chickens.
