Got a turkey from a friend, he was in a fight with other Toms. Long story short, we now have a pet turkey with a very swollen and hot hock, dragging that foot. We have had him this way for three weeks, was improving with rest but the past two days the leg has gotten much worse. Eating, drinking, pooping okay. No vet in the area will see him. I tried asprin for a few days with no improvement so I stopped that. He was bearing weight, now his toes are curled and cold. Poor guy, any help?

He is picky. Available at all times are organic poultry pellets, water with B vitamins added. But he will ONLY eat the black seeds from wild bird seed mix, cantaloupe, strawberries, bread and eggs. He refuses any green vegetables. We put him outside daily in a small enclosure where he eats the grass. He is very picky and is not eating enough.

Young turkeys require a feed formulated for turkeys because they need more niacin, thiamine, minerals, and amino acids than chickens, and young turkeys should never have layer feed because it has too much calcium. If you are not feeding him a feed formulated for turkeys his age, it's possible that your turkey has perosis.

I should've stated he's 2.5 years old. His leg was injured. He refuses to eat anything unless it's the foods mentioned above. 😥
