I haven't posted here for many years, but need help for my 6-year-old turkey tom, BigBird. 3 weeks ago I noticed for the 1st time what I thought was Scaly Leg Mite, his scales were raised and he was all of a sudden just miserable and limping. So, I treated with Vaseline for a few days and the problem wasn't improving and his legs were bleeding, so I rubbed Neosporin on the worst parts and then the Vaseline. I also treated him with Ivomec at that time and then again last weekend (3 weeks later). I thought the problem was solved....poor guy didn't have any scales left, but his legs were not as sore and appeared to be healing. He was up and around, eating better and gobbling...I sure missed that sound! Then yesterday he was limping severely again and he has a patch of yellow on one of his legs and skin is beginning to peal off. I don't know if this is related to the mites or I was wrong from the get go. I have water soluable Tylan and plan to start him on that tonight. I would appreciate any help you can provide.

I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this right now.
Could you possible get a few pictures of his legs and post them here?

Thank you Kikisgirls! I think I got some good pics tonight. I had put a big tub of water out yesterday and got home today and he was soaking his feet...LOL. Poor guy is just miserable! I hope the pics help! 3 weeks ago his legs were totally normal...:(

Hi Kikisgirl...I'm not sure I got your reply, since it only says @Eggcessive.
I really don't know what to say..I am not familiar with turkeys, so I was tagging another user to see if they would chime in.

Are the legs normally this color?

Oh now I understand :) No, they are not normally red. Here is another pic of when the problem started 3 weeks ago....we had rain and puddles everywhere, but you can see he still has some scales left, so his legs are normally the buff scale color. Now he has no scales to protect his legs or feet and he is picking at his legs, which makes it worse.

Thank you for passing this along for help! I did find a vet that will see him, but not until next Thursday and the poor guy is suffering now. So, I will continue applying Neosporin on his legs when he goes to roost in the evening. I have also put him on Tylan Water Soluble antibiotic to see if that helps. Any other advice is much appreciated.

It looks as though his legs almost got burned.
Did you apply the Ivomec all over his legs?

I would pick up some Vetericyn spray and spray them a few times a day and stop using what ever else you are using.

Something might be making it worse..maybe it's outdated or something???

The Ivomec was given orally and only twice 3 weeks apart. The only thing I applied directly to his legs was Vaseline at first every evening and then Neosporin, which was newly purchased and not out of date. I will definitely get some of the Vetericyn. He was much better...not in appearance, but I could tell he felt much better....gobbling again and active with his flock last weekend. Then early this week he started picking at his legs again and laying around most of the day. He is eating and drinking well....and gets up when we take treats out, but then lays down again. It's a real mystery...my daughter is a vet, but out of state, so I sent her pics and she has no idea either....but she's not an avian vet, so doesn't have a lot of flock experience.
