My royal palm turkey is making a funny chirp chirp sound could
this be a cough?

Our girl started that after she laid a few eggs and we set up a nesting area for her. it is like a high pitched bark anytime we get near the nest. Now i'm afraid she is going broody on an unfertilized egg. she likes the nest and doesn't want to get off it. hisses if you get too near.

I should have said it was a Tom , I don't know if he does it when I'm not around?

If i remember correctly he is challenging you because he think you at the top of the pecking order and he wants to be.
