My Thanksgiving turkeys keep eating the cat's food. I know its high in protein but is there anything in cat food that is harmful for turkeys? If its safe, I'll let them continue as they could use some plumping before freezer camp, but if not guess I will be moving the cat food again!

As far as I know there isn't anything bad for them in it. I toss it out for our peafowl for the extra protien and the turkeys get what they can of that.

We were in the store one day and bought a bag of dog food and cat food so the lady asked how they get along together and I said "oh we don't have any cats, that's for the poultry"..... the look I got from her. lol

That is funny Steve! We were in the yuppie Home Depot (not all are, but this one doesn't "get" farm folks) last week buying a bunch of PVC pipe, the cashier asked my husband what project we were working on. My husband (who has been slow to embrace the turkey/chicken/meat bird movement at our house) quickly replied, "its a chicken tractor". He did not even attempt to explain further, the look on that clerks face was PRICELESS. I am sure she is still wondering how you build a tractor out of PVC and what the chickens have to do w/ it.

My turkeys regularly break into the garage to chow down on the cat and dog food in there. The cats get so offended but they're terrified of the turks so there's nothing they can do about it.
