Turkeys are interesting, cute, hillarious, annoying . . . . .

Our 8 3week old BBW are on a new schedule because being so big the hop out of the brooder at will!

:cd. Since having them underfoot in the kitchen had become more annoying than cute, I have the boys put the poults outside in the morning surrounded by my old puppy fencing. THen at dusk, we catch each one and back into the house brooder with the marans.

Tonight they were brought in late; put out the lights for the night as usual. I went to the TV room down the hall, at the other end of the house. Beep. Beep.Beep. A turkey poult came to visit me. Cute. THen beep.beep. He was calling for the others to follow!!! 6 poults showed up checking out a new place.

My 9 year old corraled them , and gently drove them out, saying " no TV tonight", and put them back into the brooder. And now finally,silence.

I can't share such stories with most people I know--they'd think I was totally, well, nuts. If most people only knew how smart birds are; it explains how dinosaurs ruled the world for so long.

Cute but anoying describes BBWs well. I can't go out into my pen without tripping over them. As soon as I stop moving they're pecking anything they can reach. I was trying to take some turley pictures this evening and got a lot of shots of BBW heads pushing into the fram at teh last second

LOL. That's too funny. We had our brooder in the basement near our exercise room. One day my sister was working out on the treadmill and suddenly heard a loud peeping. One of the turkey poults had escaped and was trying to jump up onto the treadmill with her. We were glad the baby was unsuccessful as it might have gotten hurt. We all had a good laugh afterwards.

I've been raising chickens for several years and I'm continually amazed at how friendly and unafraid the poults are unlike the baby chicks. The poults were outgoing from day one while the chicks took awhile to get used to people.

I have a lone turkey poult that was hatched by a chicken. This little bugger has been "beeping" since day one. The poult now sits with my big male tom at night and not with it's sibbling chickens. Very independent. I have yet to catch this little one which is about 3 months old. It's a bronze turkey. Eventually, I will catch him and see how he deals with me. It's my tom that I'm starting to have a problem with. As cute as he is walking with me like a dog he is not visitor friendly. He checks out new people to see if they are afraid of him. If they are he attacks them which then leads me to lead him to a pen. I'm really hoping he will stop and let people visit without being so aggressive. Definitely not kid friendly which is sad. I was hoping he would grow out of it. If you are afraid your done for if you aren't no problem. Crazy.
