Turkeys attacking relative.

If you watch turkey behavior, it's easy to control the flock. Notice that if you hold a broom or rake and poke at the turkey it will stay aggressive. Never use a broom or swing at it. That is not a dominant position. You need to assert yourself as the alpha bird. Notice the male will turn sideways, lower his fanned tail and wings as he gets ready to attack. That is what he does when he's not sure if he can win. Never turn your back to him or turn sideways. Face him directly, raise your arms, yell at him and walk swiftly directly at him. Do not stop until he turns and runs. This is a dominant maneuver. I did this to the alpha male turkey and noticed the younger males started helping me. Now all I have to do is tap him on his head and it's GAME ON! The younger males jump in front of me and go after him. It's pretty cool having a posse of attack turkeys on my side. I hope this helps a little. But keep in mind that the agressive turkey is delicious with mashed potatoes, gravy and homemade bread. If all else fails, into the freezer with him!

It is also helpful to hand raise these guys (if keeping them for pets) and when the jakes get hormonal start the dominance training with consistency. Ours will push against our legs when begging for grapes but have never directed so much as a challenge trill in our direction.
