Turkeys & Chickens

Hey all... couple questions. Do turkeys 'roost' up high like my chickens do? This is the first night with my turkey being in with my chickens, and I'm just curious. Also, others whom have mixed flocks, what do you feed yours? I'm currently using purina flock raiser which i think is fine for now, but what about when the chickens reach laying age?

Just provide oyster shell for extra calcium - the chickens will eat it as they need it. Otherwise you can keep everyone on flock raiser.

is this what you mean by high? He did this every time he got out. Now he is comfortably in freezer camp.

For those who have mixed them before, if they weren't born together but got put together at a young age, how long did it take them to start 'hanging out'? My turkey has been fairly lonely in its first day I think.

My turkeys ignore the chickens and vice versa....the Turkeys do make a swing through the chicken area but thats about it. A poult will get into the chicken run and so far no issues. The ducks howver will grab and sling just about anything that gets near them.....im sure that will change when the turkeys get a bit bigger.

They co-mingle fine. Feed them flock raiser with oyster shells and oodles of compost. Agree that the turkeys will roost as high as you let them. They're in a hoophouse now and are 5+ feet. The chickens prefer in/on/near the nestboxes...
