INTRODUCTION:
We all love our turkeys! Now is the time to show off your best turkeys on BackYardChickens.com! In this fun contest, we will be choosing the most interesting turkeys in several categories.
RULES:
1) All turkeys must have been owned by the poster. If they are not owned by you, you must have permission to post them onto here and state that you do not own the turkey.
2) You may enter as many turkeys as you like.
3) You may enter the same turkey into several categories (IE: a tom may be entered into tom, best herd, cutest, then if you have baby pictures of him, poult).
4) You may enter previously owned turkeys or deceased turkeys.
5) Both purebreds and mixed breeds will be accepted with no preference over either.
6) If you enter a video, you still need a picture of the bird you are entering (just in case you win).
7) The contest will end on 08/18/2014 and we will not accept late entries.
8) At least two entries from separate people must be in a category for the winner to win the prize.
9) One post per entry. If you are entering multiple turkeys, place them in multiple posts.
CATEGORIES:
Tom - A picture/video of a single tom.
Hen - A picture/video of a single hen.
Poult - A picture/video of a single young turkey.
Herd - This must have minimum of one tom and one hen in the picture or video.
Cutest - This can be a picture/video of an especially cute turkey or a picture/video of your turkey doing something cute (either alone or with another turkey/animal/person)(this can be several turkeys as well)
Ugliest - This can be a plain ugly bird to a bird going through an especially bad molt.
Gobble - This must include a picture of your tom turkey, then either a video or sound clip of him gobbling.
At the end of all of the basic categories, there will be an overall winner, or "supreme champion"!
PRIZES:
I wish I could offer something better, but rosettes are a bit out of my price range, ribbons have an outrageous set up fee and it is hard to find anything turkey related that does not cost an arm and a leg. So, the winning turkeys in each category will receive a printed photograph that was submitted with the turkey's name, owner's name, contest name and then the award won printed onto the photograph. These will be mailed directly from wherever I choose to get the photographs printed from (most likely Wal-Mart) to your house most likely (however, we may have them shipped to my house and then mailed to your house). These are just small little prizes, however, they would hopefully look pretty snazzy hanging up in your barn/coop or on the good ol' refrigerator (reminding you that you now have bragging rights of whatever you had won).
JUDGING:
Judging will be done by my family and I. We will be trying to focus on interesting, distinguishing features about each bird (IE: interesting coloration or how well the turkey holds itself) in the tom, hen and poult categories. In the herd category, we will judge it based partly on how well the photograph was taken, then partly on how the turkeys look together (it can be a mixed herd) and acting (are they enjoying themselves or do they look bored?). Cutest and ugliest is where everyone can get a little creative and do whatever they feel like. We will base these on creativity and what we come together, as a group, on what the cutest and ugliest turkeys are. Then the gobbling contest may be a little harder, but it is to capture your turkey's best gobble! We will judge the gobbling contest based on how confident your turkey gobbles and how well he pronounces each "oble-oble-oble-oble". The "supreme champion" award will go to the turkey that stood out the most to us.
HELPFUL HINTS:
Better quality pictures/videos may help you score better.
You can enter as many pictures/videos as you want to better show off your turkey.
You do not have to have a short description, however, it may help you set the mood for your turkey winning.
