Awesome post! I have actually made little booklets to give out to newbies on care, common ailments, etc. Don't know if that is enough for some folks though...since you just can't cure stupid.

That's a great idea. All we can do is try to empower them on how to care for their birds. :/

Just trying to catch up, I've been MIA for a few days, been updating my website. Anyway I just wanted to mention that emailed Kevin at Porters and he confirmed I would get blacks and blues from my Blue Slate and Narragansett trio, he was on the computer when I emailed him and he responded right away and was very nice. I think next year I will experiment with my Blue Slate and Royal Palm hen

Awesome. I love it when the breeders are such nice people and willing to answer questions. Good luck!

I get blacks and blues with a white feather or two crossing my Blue Slate tom on my Royal Palm hens. The blue with a few white feathers turned out to be the heaviest and fastest growing hen that I had last year.

My neighbor crossed a Royal Palm tom on a Narragansett hen and got some really pretty birds.

Thanks whoever it was that posted the pic of the turkey soaking itsleg in epsom salt. We did the same thing with our young one with the injured leg today. She wasn't standing on it or flexing the foot at all and it had swelled up and turned bluish. After soaking we splinted her leg with some recycled styrofoam mushroom box and wrapped it with stretchy wrap. An hour later and she was standing up with her foot splayed out properly. Yeah! I guess we'll soak it again tomorrow and rewrap and see how it goes. Anyone else ever dealt with a leg break?

I am hoping to get a couple narangansett poults this spring if not I will simply stick with the bourbons and chocolates
Hey Josh, I'm hoping my poults have grown up to be males and females. --Do you want hatching eggs or poults? Once they are laying, maybe I can hatch some poults for you.

Glad that you found your way back. Excited about your experiment for next year.

You are welcome. I have never dealt with a leg break.

You may want to post your pics and explain what you did as well. I think that would also be a great tutorial for all of us.

How is she doing today?
