If anyone sells poults here, what do you charge for them. I have Royal Palm's and Royal Palm/Bronze crosses. I have lots of people wanting them but don't know what to charge. I was thinking $5.00. does that sound right?

I need a 'how to raise your turkey poults from hatch to table" thread. Anyone have one? Momma is sitting firm, and so far she hasn't hissed much. The jake seems despondent to be alone but its easier on all of us this way. I might have poults from the incubator soon.... that thread? Anyone? I know they are fragile and I don't want to kill them out of stupidity.

Oh, and yey DesertMarcy! Arielle told me to come here and then I got you to come in... its a chain of turkey fans.

The cheapest I have found them at the hatcheries is $8.25 for Royals. That is also the cheapest price for any of the heritage birds. I would think yours should be worth at least that much, don't you?

Last year I sold my day to week old poults for $5.00 each They were Blue Slates, Self Blues, Blacks and BlueSlate/Royal Palm crosses. To buy the purebreds from a dealer would have run $10 each. The closest comparison on the crosses that I could find is Porter's Rare Heritage Turkeys where he sells his mixed crossbreeds for $6.00 each.

Any poults that no longer required heat I sold for $10 each. I am not in this as anything other than a hobby and the enjoyment I get from my poultry. I enjoyed hatching the poults but don't have the room to keep them and the income helped defray the cost of feed.

If you are doing this as a business you need to charge higher prices than I do. You also have to understand what prices your local market will respond to. Right now my local market is good for mature toms since so many people either didn't have a tom to begin with or lost their tom over the winter.

I would charge 7-8 for the crosses and I bet u can get $10 for the palms... At least that has been my experience with my own poults.
