Turkeys For 2013

12 hatched and 9 more coming. One died but the rest seem to all be doing great. I didn't mean to but two of the poults imprinted on me and won't stop peeping when I go in the other room for a second

Nice job!!! WOn't worry too much about the imprinting-- comes in handy later when you need to catch them.

Very cute. I have 1 hatched and 2 more on their way out. How would you NOT let them imprint? Aren't poults fun?

I got two new turkeys today in the picture above anybody have any ideas of there breeds?

Here are my turkeys the little ones are bronze but when we got the big ones they said white turkeys does any one know what they are? One has meds one tail.

Marans and sirbuster-- have a look at porterturkeys.com description of his white birds. He only has one, there are others: beltsville and _________ and the broad breasted whites. The most noteable difference is the size of the bird and breast muscling. ANd those 2 factors are hard to see in a pic.

If it is a fast grower with a lot of breast muscling = BBW

Can someone please help me? My turkey is getting bigger and he still is pecking at my rings but he is now hurting me. Now all the other turkey are pecking at me when I go into their pen. I don't know what to do. The little ones started pecking and pulling on my clothes I thought to get my attention. And one likes to jump on me where ever she can. But the pecking is hurting and making bloody sores on my hands. Please help me figure out how to stop them from hurting me!

i would wear gloves and also you might have to use a little force to let them know that the behavior is not acceptable. If they hop on you, knock them off. if they peck at you, smack them...

Every time they do flick ( not to hard) them in the neck- it does not hurt them but they don't like it an they will figure out tht pecking the ring means getting flicked an they will stop
