On the subject of natural cleaning solutions we are currently making a bottle of orange peel cleaner.  You can do a search on Google and find the recipe.

We normally use plain white vinager when we clean our coops out good once a year.
We also sprinkle DE (diatamacous earth) around inside the coops ever couple of months.

These are my Regal Reds and some extra Lilac Jakes, actually they carry a single blue gene so that would classify them as red slates. Ive been working on improving these for several years. I now have Regal Red toms weighing in at 38-39 lbs at a year and a half old. Ive been trying to increase size while maintaining good color for years. My Lilacs I'm still working on increasing size, those toms average about 35lbs currently. Very healthy birds. I have hatching eggs up for presale on Ebay If anyone is interested. I used to raise Narragansetts and had toms weighing 40lbs, one in particular named Goliath. I since then sold off my breeding stock to a very interested breeder who bought everything.

I am hoping to get some poults this spring. I have been looking at the Royal Palms and the Narragansett. This will be the first time I have attempted Turkeys. Could be an interesting year.

You want to raise them on wire bottom IAfarmgirl. Turkeys in my opinion are the most difficult birds to raise but others may disagree. Once they reach a certain point though, there is no stopping them. Does IA stant for Iowa? I live in Iowa. Thanks for all the compliments guys. I work hard on what I have, thats why I dont raise a ton of different turkey breeds just my Lilacs and Regal reds. The less you have, the more you can concentrate on a particular breed. I feel size is greatly diminished in many peoples flocks because the emphisis is greater on color than size. Why not keep the color and improve the size and vigor of your birds? Turkeys sole purpose has been for meat production and we dont want to lose that, just give your birds plenty of room to roam so they can still breed naturally. I also burn the spurs and back toenails off of my breeder toms because they are so heavy. I don't want them tearing open the backs on my hens.
