I'm with you. I can't shut the cartons. I leave them open on the counter. Turkey eggs are bigger than chicken eggs, so they won't fit in as comfortable as chicken eggs will in a regular egg carton.

I cannot shut the carton either and sometimes I have to skip every other space to fit the largest ones. My oldest hens lay the largest eggs! I use flats, instead of cartons, when their laying increases.

Yes very true, the reason I priced mine at 7.00 was someone is selling eggs for 3.00 each and I thought if I went too high on poults I'd never sell them. I've updated the prices on my website and on my ads. I am going to honor the prices I have quoted but not selling for 7 anymore. I will lower the costs for some but not craigslist like Kuntrygirl pointed out.
If you sell goslings what do y'all sell them for? I had mine at 12.00

I sell mine on Craigslist for $10. each, straight run and the eggs sell for $20 the first 6 and $15 each additional half dozen, with $15 for shipping, if they don't live close enough to pick them up. I am the only person I know of in my area with heritage turkeys, and they are pure Holland white, but this is what I think is a fair price. If I was selling crosses, I would probably be charging $7 each.Quote:

Turkey egg laying is contingent on a lot of factors, such as Climate, breed, age, altitude, daylight hours, etc., but the old saying still applies" don't count your turkeys before they hatch" and I might add" don't count your eggs, before they are laid"!!!!!!!

How many months will Turkeys lay? I need to schedule my calendar for customers and I'm not sure if they will lay through the summer or stop in May/June the way geese do?

I think it varies a lot by where you live and maybe even what breed since some are better layers than others. Mine generally start sometime in March and quit sometime in October. Then they will take breaks if they are being broody. Also I think mine start a little later because I have to keep them penned and with it being so hot here in the summer, my pens are all set up for summer, not winter, and there is a lot of shade. So in winter/early spring they are not getting as much sunlight. I'm not sure if this affects their laying start time, but I suspect it does.

I think it varies a lot by where you live and maybe even what breed since some are better layers than others. Mine generally start sometime in March and quit sometime in October. Then they will take breaks if they are being broody. Also I think mine start a little later because I have to keep them penned and with it being so hot here in the summer, my pens are all set up for summer, not winter, and there is a lot of shade. So in winter/early spring they are not getting as much sunlight. I'm not sure if this affects their laying start time, but I suspect it does.

You are correct!!!! Here in South Louisiana, we turkey people tend to see our hens laying earlier than anyone else. I think Celie's started laying early as well. We Southerners may have started getting turkey eggs since last year for this year's breeding season.

Thanks, I wasn't counting my eggs, I just wondered if I should stop letting people know I will have them, It sounds like they are not like geese.

Thanks desertmarcy, I have mine penned too in breeds. I will be moving pens when summer gets here, if it ever does, to cooler shady areas

With 3 of my girls broody, I have had to stop taking anymore orders. That is 3 less eggs that I am getting now and more broodys to come I'm sure. :/

I'm not sure if anyone does this kind of thing: Trade eggs for poults. I'm not having any luck finding local birds, eggs are out of the question, and buying some poults is too expensive, right now. It's just a thought if anyone is interested, I can spare some White Cubalaya And Bantam Shamo eggs. I would probably do something like 4-5 Cuba eggs per poult and 2-3 B. Shamo eggs per poult.
Only looking for pure Midget White and rare colored Royal Palm turkeys. PM me if interested.

This is some of the craziness that I see at my house. The duck was the first one to go broody and then the turkey hen decided to join the party. I hate to tell both of them but they are setting on goose eggs. It will be a pleasant surprise when the babies hatch. And when the babies try to go for a swim, the turkey won't know what's going on.
