Turkeys For 2013

My Tom was being courted by one of the hens. She looks so tiny next to him. They keep mating and showing off but I'm not finding any eggs!


I love their knobbly knees lol!


I admit I was curious as to what colour they would turn out. The parents as seen above.


I do have 3 poults but they move around so fast its hard to get a group photo of these little guys/girls.

I finally put my poults outside again. They are about a month old now. The first time at two weeks of age, they just froze on the ground and wouldn't move. Now that they are a little older, and confined in a smaller section of the big pen instead of the whole thing, they seem to be adjusting. I figure it won't take but a few days before I can take the wire divider down and let them have the run of the whole pen.

Well, not really. It is actually more work right now. With 109 degrees out there, I am worried about them. I put a jug of ice inside a bowl and poured water in the bowl, so they now have icy cold water to drink. And I put a piece of that paper style cooler pad on the ground, soaked, so they can stand on that and be a little cooler, plus moistened the earth a bit, plus I am going out there with a spray bottle and misting them. Just walking out there and back in this heat exhausts me! It was staying in the low 90's inside the garage where they were so they are a lot hotter outside.

I suppose you don't have your misters working...i was thinking it may be easier since you don't have to clean out their brooder pen(s) in the garage...my garage has been topping out around 100-102...i have a few chicks in there...no light daytime and fan running...keeping it about 99-100 which is fine for this first week...next week i will most likely put them in a large brooder cage with a bottom under my shade trees and small fan perhaps...gonna have to play it 'on the fly' with this heat...one thing is for sure...i will NOT hatch this late in AZ again...gonna shut 'er down in Feb/March latest...

Is there anyone on this board that could help me with telling me if I have any hens in my turkeys? I have 2 slate blue's, I have 3 Narri's and they all puff up so I have no idea if they are all toms or if any of them are hens.

Chickadoodle-- sorry I'm not great at sexing turkeys. I just wait until they look like boys and girls. The boys are the ones mostly likely to puff and display. Can you see a difference in the size of the snood yet?

Not sure if anyone responded. I have made my own ACV right after I bought the first quart. I took a gal jug, filled it half full of water and then whenever we ate apples, I put the core and peelings in the jug of water. I also added about 1/2 cup of sugar. (I cheated and just cut up apples after a while as it wasn't getting full fast enough. I left it on the counter so it was handy to stir a Couple times a day. After a couple of weeks I placed it in the back of a cupboard. (I used 2 coffee filters and a rubber band for a cover (it needs to breathe). After another week or so I strained out all the apples and anything else that would strain. It's best in the beginning to smash, mash or chop everything into small pieces, although I've done it both ways. After a month or longer(can't remember) it starts smelling like vinegar and looks nasty. I started using it then. As soon as it starts being useful, I pour some into another container so I can use about half or so to fill back up with water. I don't add any more fruit. I always have some in the cupboard growing and some in a container for use. As soon as I run out, I pour more off and continue the process. I have a pic someplace on here and I'll post it as soon as I can find it, sue

Who on here told me that males have balder heads that were somewhat red? It works in my case. I have 4 that are 3+ months old and they have paired. They each hang out with their mate. If I sell tem without their mate, will they have problems?
