Turkeys ... how to pronounce snood?!

We have our first turkeys and had to look up what to call that thing over their nose

Is the "oo" in snood pronounced like hood or like food? It sounds kinda silly either way, but we are having a debate in the house about which may be correct

EDIT TO ADD: I do talk with an accent - so that might be my problem.

Bugs the HECK out of me when folks talk about the type of car - COUPE, and pronounce it COOP. Drives me NUTS.

Perhaps it is one of those words where the pronunciation just depends on the pronouncer, lol.
