I am looking to purchase Burbon Red Turkeys....either a breeding pair or eggs. What I want to know is once they lay will they go broody just like chickens? Or do I have to intervene and incubate them?

best to incubate, but yes most will be very broody, and you'll have a fight on your hands getting eggs out from under them. If you take them every day though, you'll get more production out of them...

Yes they will go broody just like chickens do. We will have eggs in the Spring, they have not started to lay just yet. It has been cold here but they are starting to mate.

And this picture is not of BR but of a White Holland that hatched out a batch last Spring.

Good luck with your turkeys.

8-12 is an average heritage breed clutch. If you take them they'll lay all spring and into the fall. They also produce best from age 1-3 after that they fall off on production and fertility..
Good luck with them,
Aubrey

If I wait till spring to get turkey eggs when will they start laying? I am looking to get either a mating pair (in Indiana preferrably close to Fort Wayne) or get some hatching eggs ASAP.
