I’ve raised a lot of chickens, but I recently got ten turkey eggs that I am trying to incubate. Everything was going fine up until now. I have a batch of chicken eggs in a second incubator that are on day 20, and several have popped of those. But as I was looking in the incubator, I noticed a turkey egg rocking and chirping in the second incubator. Is this normal? What do I do? I thought turkey eggs took longer to complete the process.

Turkey eggs normally take 28 days to hatch.

It is possible that you acquired an egg that had already been sat on for a week.

Keep an eye on it and see what happens. If it had already started incubating before you got the eggs, you should be able to tell what stage it is by candling it.

If it has drawn down and internally pipped it will be hatching soon.

I contacted the man I got the eggs from, and he confirmed there was no way it had been sat on as he gathered them daily. I candled it, but wasn’t able to make out much, other than the fact it was most certainly moving.

I never see my eggs moving but I use a cabinet incubator with the eggs upright.

When candling, use a bright light and shine it through the air cell which should be on top of the broad end of the egg. Candling from the pointy end will not show much of anything.
