turning eggs

Day 18 is the last day of turning. Turn an odd number of times each day. Days 19, 20, 21, etc etc (however long it takes the little fuzzies to hatch), do not turn, and do not open the 'bator. Make sure your humidity is around 60-65 and sit back and watch (or distract yourself for a few days)!

This is one of those cases where an incubator is not a hen. When you open an incubator all the humid air goes out and you have to wait for more water to evaporate to replace the humidity. In that time the membrane of the eggs may dry out. When a hen sits back on a nest the humidity is instantly back up cause there is very little air between a hen and their eggs. The moisture and heat is directly from the body. Hens will also be less likely to get up off their eggs when they hear chicks hatching and may not leave the nest that day.
