How old do my chicks have to be until I can start turning out the heat lamp at night? Right now they are three weeks old and they seem to have a pretty good amount of feathers and the lamp is constantly on when can I turn it off.

Mine were a little over 3 weeks when we moved them outside to their coop. We are in west Texas so our weather is usually pretty mild this time of year. We kept the light off during the day and then back on for them at night. They've done great. They are almost 5 weeks now and we didn't turn the light on last night and they were fine.

mine are 4 weeks on monday and ive been keeping the light off all the time . mostly because i have ducks coming that will need it . but my chicks are almost fully feathered. theyll be fine . just watch their behavior.

My chicks are about 3 1/2 - 4 weeks old and i've left the heat lamp off for the past couple of nights. Now granted, they are inside in our spare bedroom and the temperature stays between 65-70. So with all that said my chicks are doing great without the lamp

I rise the lamp one foot each week until it is so high it will not matter if it is on.

4-6 weeks

This process seems to work just fine (Tucson, AZ). I raise my chicks outside in the coop partitioned off.

I just put these chicks in today and will be lowering the lamp to 1 1/2 feet.

I keep the chicks in the partition until they are ready to leave it (they jump out on their own). The juvenile chickens to the left jumped out about 2 weeks ago, err maybe more.
