I walked outside a bit ago to do something and movement at the duck pond caught my eye. There are tons of frogs there, so movement is nothing new. But I swear I saw a turtle go into the pond!
But I didn't get a long enough or good enough look to have any clue what kind it was.

To get to the pond, the turtle had to go up the stairs...

I know snapping turtles are bad.
I just spent 30 mins scooping the pond hoping to stir it up to figure out if it was an ok turtle or not. Nada. I know I saw a turtle slide into the pond!

How does one go about trying to trap a turtle so I can figure out if it's safe for the ducks to get in the pond?

If its a snapping turtle it will be obvious- the back will be craggy, bumped and spiked. If the shell is smooth its fine.
