Tweak my setup Accurite and Fluker placement.

My turner is full so I have an Accurite with its probe in the WW along the side where there was some room. I have a Fluckers thermometer also resting along the side. Is this ok? I do not have the WW or any thermometer on the turner because there was no room.

Get a water wigler and put the probe inside that.

The Flukers, in my opinion, is junk. Make sure you have checked it against
a know thermometer.

Put a cup of water in the bator and use a digital oral human thermometer to
verify accuracy.

Thanks, the probe in in the water wiggler! I was most concerned about the placement, that nothing is on the turner, or at "egg level"
My Fluker and accurite read the same.

Egg level mid way between heater element and the edge is usually the best, as if the wiggler is touching the bator edges, it can be affected by the cooler air at the bator edges.

Thanks silkiechichen. I elevated the water wiggler and placed a barrier between it and the side of the bator. Now I feel better. Next time I will set eggs in the morning so I can go to bed at a decent time.

HI!
If you have a waterwesel/wiggler/ thing taking up space in your bator, you are wasting space, in my opinion.
Measure air temps at egg height:
!01.5 for still air
and
99.5 for forced air.
If you are reading air temps at egg height, you are more able to control your incubation, in my opinion.

I wonder how many people had a perfect hatch going right up to Day 18???
Moved the viable eggs out of the turner to the floor and wondered why the chicks didn't hatch??
Did you adjust the thermostat, when you moved the eggs to lower in the incubator?
There is a 4+ degree difference between egg height in the turner and egg height laying on their side (here) in the hatcher.

Dipsy, that's a good little bit of info to know! I didn't realize it's a whole 4 degree difference!

Dippsy, that is a good point in using the Hova or LG, Heat rises and the temp is higher as you go up My incubators all have had the eggs turned by a wheel or spoke arrangement and they lay in the same position from the get go.

I know in the top hatch there was a huge difference in temp as you raised the probe. I am with you temp at the top of the egg has worked best for me.

Lisa, thanks for the additional info. I learn something all the time from this forum! I have a modest waffle type hovabator with a turner, and yes I have found the temps vary by height, and have adjusted thermometer height as needed when I removed the turner on previous hatches. Now I have both the water wiggler with the accurite probe and the fluker at egg height.I will admit this is my third hatch, and for thethe first time things are less stressful. I even decreased the time I spend staring with flashlight in hand!
I have said it so many times already, but I can not wait for this hatch. It is full of eggs from BYC members and the chicks should be a blast!
