Hi! So normally my Ancona lays brilliant white eggs but a couple months ago she laid a single beige egg. Then went back to white.

Today she laid another off color.

All my other chickens lay brown or blue/green. Plus, I got 10 eggs from all 10 chickens today (whoo hoo!) so it's definitely her egg. Here's a comparison from the first time and today's.

I'm not concerned about her health. Just curious what other think about the odd color change.

Note: The lighting is not great in 2nd photo (today's) but promise one of those is cream and one is white.

The shape is similar. In my experiences that doesn't often change, but the color can sometimes. Pigment can lighten and darken. I've not seen a white egg layer lay cream, but I haven't seen everything.

Very interesting! I've had my brown/cream layers lay slightly more pinkish eggs occasionally but I think that's a normal glitch.

I don't know much about how egg colors work but could it be possible that she has a gene for laying brown or cream eggs from somewhere in her ancestry? 🤔

Hmmm I doubt it because it's only been a couple times and every other time her eggs have been brilliant white. I'm chalking it up to a glitch in the egg laying process. If it were genetics, I would expect every egg to come out that color.

Here she is. (Just attaching a photo because I think she's beautiful)
