The reason I got my incubator was because we were buying fertile Silkie and Frizzle eggs to hatch, but of course everything happened with my Pekin so Instead of incubating my bought eggs I had to use it first time on the abandoned pekin egg. I couldn't put the eggs in with the Pekin because it was already well into Lockdown, so I Borrowed an incubator because they were already getting too old. So I put them in the borrowed incubator Thursday last week so it is now day 7.
I was trying to hold off on candling until day 10, but when I put the eggs in the incubator I was very distracted with what was going on with the Pekin in lockdown that it didn't occur to me that one of the eggs was so big a bit over double the size of the others. I noticed it a couple of days ago and immediately I was concerned as I had heard about issues with double yokers turning into twins. So I candled and I have two embryos, I'm cranky at myself for not paying attention to what I was putting in and I'm cranky at the seller because she should have known the egg was too large. However we are talking about a woman who padded them with one sheet of paper towel put in an egg carton, no bubble wrap nothing. I had order 12 and I now only have 6 because the other 6 smashed, however they all have embryo's.
I am in two minds about it I'm not sure if I should take the egg out or continue on with it, I feel awful killing it now but I know that percentage wise these chicks will most likely die either before or during hatch.
Should I take it out? or let nature take its course?
