Twisted Tibia ...Questions !!

Chick is 2 weeks ... been trying the band aid thinking it was splay leg ... not helping . Tonight I will cusion and wrap legs together all night , take off during the day ... my questions ....
.. There are 4 total chicks together , do I nned to isolate this one from them ??
... After I brace the legs , do I just lay her on her side or belly for all night ?!
.....How far away from heat lamp do i set her ?? ( She is not all the way feathered out )
....Do I ignore any protesting and peeping from her while taped up ?!?!?!

Has this been going on since hatch? It won't correct this late as far I know... I would cull that chick.

Otherwise you NEED to learn how to identify the dislocation and set it back in place before securing. Can you post a short video of the chick trying to get around so we can see how bad it is, using vimeo or youtube?

If you go through with your plan... I might lay the chick about the same distance from the heat that the others are laying... if it's a lights out type situation.

I try not to get in the habit of ignoring things cuz sure if I do it will be head down in the water or being trampled.

If it truly is a twisted tibia, also known as tibial dyschondroplasia or TD, there is no helping the deformity. But there are other leg deformities, such as varus or valgus deformity that can affect one leg or both. Those are not treatable, although I am sure that you want to do anything you can. I might be trying chick vitamins, and letting the chick try to learn to get around on it’s own, or cull it. If you are going to splint the legs together, it might be good to place her in a cup with padded sides, or lie her down. Can you get any pictures of the chick standing without the splints tomorrow?
