Twisting off a roosters outer spur

I recently saw a video on youtube about how someone had their rooster, and literally just twisted off the outer spurs with no seeming harm to the rooster. Has anyone done this or know about it? I'd love to do it to my roosters as I have a small flock and four roosters

I haven't done it before, but have read about it. It usually doesn't harm the rooster, though the new spur will be tender for a few days. If you want more information on it, here's a link:
