I have a question (I hope its's not a dumb one!!) but I have 7 little barred rock girls that are are almost 3 weeks old. They are in a brooder in my she shed and they stink and dust is everywhere (I do my sewing out there and have lots of material on shelves). It is hotter outside than in my shed and I was wondering if I could move them into my outside coop/run?? I read articles on here but their chicks were older than mine are and I live in Louisiana. I didn't really know if it would cause harm to them being out and not under a heat light.??
I turned the heat lamp off today and my AC is running on 72 and they don't act like they are cold in any way.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!

How often do you clean the brooder? Also, it is too early to move them to the coop.

You only have 9 posts so I am assuming you only have chicks.
They can be in the coop from day 0 , the only reason not to is if you can’t possibly separate new chicks from hens. I’ve never raised chicks anywhere except coop. As long as it is above 15 degrees F there’s no issues with mama heat pad.
They can’t, actually. Not if you don’t have a heat lamp. But even so, the coop may be hard for them to navigate.

you are one hundred percent wrong. This photo taken when it was 25F out.

section of a bit of your coop and keep them in there until they are fully feathered out.... then let them out into the main area... although u could leave them in the coop a bit longer and let them into the run a bit later....

If you have no heating source, I am not wrong. I do know chicks cannot live in 25° temps, so I am not in fact wrong. I did phrase that wrong. If you have no heating element, they cannot live outside full time when they are not fully feathered. Let’s all be polite. :)

I had mine out in upstate ny in May. It snowed in May. I kept them inside the coop, and had a heat lamp for them until they were 3.5 weeks. I was being overly cautious. Your chicks will be fine. Hang a lamp in there at night if you’re really nervous...
